Laser Applications Bring New Business Opportunities To Garment Embellishers

January 2007

Laser ApplicationsHauppauge NY: Tajima USA Sales & Support By Hirsch announces the addition of the SEIT Laser system to their expanding line of garment embellishment products. This high-tech unit will enable companies engaged in generating Imprinted Apparel products to:

? Engrave a picture, text or logo directly onto a garment to create a very unique look.
? The ability to cut one, two, three or more layers of fabric in a single step, significantly reducing the amount of time and labor necessary to produce applique.
(Applique can be automatically cut on the machine during the embroidery process.)
? Produce unique and complex designs quicker than with traditional embroidery.
? Create a different look that cannot be achieved with embroidery or screen-printing.

With the SEIT system, a concentrated beam of high energy light is used to cut fabric while moving along a pre-determined course. The depth of the cut is controlled by the intensity of the beam, whereas the path is determined by the parameters of the design. Much like embroidery, the laser system utilizes an X-Y pantograph system to control where the laser cuts. The difference is that with the SEIT Laser system the laser head moves, while the garment remains stationary.

Incorporating the same cutting-edge technology used in medical laser applications, the SEIT textile laser system can create very fine detail on even the bulkiest fabrics (such as polyester fleece), including geometric shapes and patterns as small as one-eighth inch square and text as tiny as six-point type. Fabric with a tighter weave can handle even more detailed engraving. Because the intensity can be controlled, it's possible to use the laser on a wide variety of fabrics including: suede, leather, denim, canvas, nylon, silk, fleece, flock, polyester, vinyl, etc.

Utilizing the Tajima DG/ML by Pulse software for design creation and operation, the SEIT laser system is extremely precise, yet simple to operate. And because no ink, thread, backing or bobbins are required with laser applications, the cost per garment is lower than with most other forms of embellishment, while generating a higher markup due to the unique look of the final product.
